#1- Us (2019)
To start this list, we chose Us. It’s a horror movie released in 2019 and directed by Jordan Peele, the same director of Get Out. It stars Academy Award winner, Lupita Nyong’o as one of the main characters.
This production involves criticism about our society, life, and image with a shocking touch. The movie also involves a lot of disturbing psychological horror scenes that are sure to haunt your dreams. It’s surprising thriller that will mess with your mind!
#2 – Hereditary (2018)
Hereditary is a supernatural movie that starts with introducing The Grahan family. In the beginning, a member of their family has died. Along the story, you’re able to understand their life and tragic past.
Undoubtedly, it’s one of the biggest horror movie productions in the past years. Directed by Ari Aster, Hereditary surpassed $80 million in tickets and became a must watch on the list. It stars Golden Globe winner, Toni Collette.
#3- Midsommar (2019)
Another movie directed by Ari Aster, Midsommar follows a different purpose. A mix of violent and trippy at the same time. In the story, a group of friends are traveling to a hidden society. But their traditions may be controversial.
This independent movie had brilliant scenery and beautiful images that create a connection between us and the characters. As a result, Midsommar won the Independent Spirit Award for best photography.
#4- Annabelle 2 (2017)
First of all, don’t let yourself be mistaken by the idea that a simple doll can’t be horrifying. Annabelle is here to prove the opposite. In the same vein of all movies involved in The Conjuring franchise, this creepy doll story has a high quality production.
Second of all, the movie is filled with a lot of paranormal activities and demons. To explain where and how Annabelle’s story originated, the movie involves a craftsman that decides to accept orphans inside his house.
#5- Doctor Sleep (2019)
Last but not least, Doctor Sleep is a movie based on a Stephen King novel. Known as one of the biggest horror writer’s of our time, King also created It, 1922, The Shining and 1408.
Doctor Sleep was released in 2019 was directed by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill Residence). It follows The Shining story as a sequel. Therefore, it’s pretty different than the book but keeps the same essence. A man accepts a job in an abandoned hotel and moves there with his family.
Do you remember that little boy on The Shining? To clarify, this story tells more about his adult life and, along the movie, you can understand why Doctor Sleep was chosen as name for it.
