Lately, nearly all of us has made a move to use makeup which does not have harsh chemicals or animal by-products. I am one of them, especially when it comes to animal testing. Here are some products and ways to remove your makeup naturally.

- Coconut Oil – Did you know that coconut oil is a comedogenic, meaning the oil can clog pores, so I recommend cleansing with your usual facial cleanser. It is gentle on your skin (it could be used daily) and would be mild enough to remove eye makeup. It also has anti-bacterial properties to help combat breakouts. It softens skin your in the process, and smells amazing. To Use: Simply apply a small amount of coconut oil to a cotton pad and gently wipe your face to remove makeup.
- Witch Hazel – Witch hazel is a natural astringent that can help remove excess oil and dirt from the skin, including makeup, and removes your makeup more effectively. It has been used traditionally for skin problems and has a long history of use in the beauty industry. Witch Hazel is used as a multi-purpose remedy because it helps with a variety of skin conditions such as spot-treating acne, soothing, and dry skin or itching. To Use: Apply a small amount to a cotton pad and gently wipe the makeup away.
- Aloe Vera Gel – Aloe vera gel is a soothing and hydrating ingredient that can also help to remove makeup. Bring home an aloe plant and you will have a hydrating facial mask, a moisturizer, a scalp treatment for irritated follicles AND a primer before applying your foundation. To Use: When removing eye makeup, place the aloe on your eyes. (DO NOT RUB: this will cause a butt load of problems later on). Just let the aloe soak into your lids and lashes for a minute, so it can dissolve the makeup. Then when you cleanse, the mascara should slide right off.
- Olive Oil – This is a natural and nourishing option for removing makeup. Olive oil is naturally less abrasive than many makeup removers and chances are you have some in your house already anyway. The effect of using olive oil as a makeup remover is immediate due to its oily properties which help you get rid of even the most stubborn makeup, like waterproof mascara. But, what’s special about olive oil is that not only it acts as a good makeup remover, but it is also a good moisturizer. To Use: Take reusable round cotton pads and moisturize it with the olive oil. Dab the oil on your face. After removing your makeup with olive oil, rinse your face with cold water so your pores will tighten.
- Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil is a non-greasy oil that is similar in composition to our skin’s natural oils. It is gentle, hydrating, and can be used to effectively remove makeup. Pure jojoba has many fantastic benefits for the skin, which make it the ultimate makeup remover and facial cleanser. Jojoba is the ideal replacement for your current make up remover, at a fraction of the cost. Using jojoba oil on your skin is safe, and won’t have any adverse effects on the health of your skin. To Use: Simply massage a half teaspoon of jojoba onto your face for a minute or two, then lay a hot, damp washcloth over your face for a minute. Wipe your face with the damp washcloth and you’re finished. This method will remove both makeup and dirt and leave your skin feeling extra soft & moisturized!
It’s important to note that while these ingredients are generally safe and effective for most skin types, it’s always a good idea to patch test first and discontinue use if you experience any irritation or adverse reactions.
