While some will mock athleisure wear (search ‘activewear’ on YouTube for evidence), to me it makes sense. It’s comfortable, breathable and doesn’t require much closet-coordination to get ready.
Much of the focus is on women’s athleisure wear but I don’t think men are immune to sporting the trend as they head out for a casual latte with friends or hit the shops.
As a men’s stylist below are my top picks on the best men’s athleisure wear options now available:
Men’s All Day Everyday Jogger by Public Rec – $148
If you’re a man who travels, these pants are tailored to meet your demands. The more tapered style (than previous pants by Public Rec) is comfort personified, yet still refreshingly cool and street-worthy. Wearing these joggers is not a daggy-dad faux-pas.
Crosstown Bomber by Public Rec – $194
The name just sounds cool and it is. Made from premium, breathable fabric, this well-designed jacket can be dressed up or down to suit your mood or occasion. Available in heather charcoal, navy and black it’s a jacket that can be thrown over anything.
Badge Terry Hoodie by Tommy Jeans – $179
Tommy has done it again with this pure cotton hoodie that is classic in style while offering comfort. You could watch TV all day in this beauty then head out with mates and nobody could tell the difference. This must be a staple in your athleisure wear arsenal.
New Romford Polo by Ben Sherman – $69.95
I love how designer Ben Sherman is described as “A passionate businessman with an artist’s soul.” If that doesn’t sum up this polo, nothing will. It’s perfect worn as a dressed-down business top or a relaxed summer edition to your wardrobe. In a variety of colours, it will match seamlessly with pants, shorts or beachwear.
Remy Track Pants by Le Coq Sportif – $99.95
Remember the snap-pants trend of the 90s? Well, it’s back minus the press-studs. These track pants hark back to a past era with a series of stripes down the length of the leg, yet offer more sophistication. If you’re trackside or streetside these track pants are great for casual days.
Terry Cropped Trouser by Swensky – $290
Swanky has designed a trouser that looks as much at home in the gym as it does a corporate office. The elastic drawstring waistband, front fly and crease marks take these (ultimately) comfort trousers to the next level. In black, anthracite, navy, grey and dark mole this trouser will cater to every occasion and situation imaginable.
Rio Branco sneakers by Veja – $179.99
Bucking the recent trend of overly flashy sneakers, Veja has produced a pair subtle in appearance but beneficial to the planet. Created from organic cotton and combined with recycled polyester sourced locally from the Amazonian forest, these sneakers are designed with more than just comfort and style in mind.
Love it or loathe it, men’s athleisure wear is here to stay. Being a personal fashion stylist, I believe if you choose to make a style out of it, my selections above will have you decked out in relaxed clothing that feels great and looks even better.
