For those of you lucky to have a job albeit working from, there’s a real psychology around keeping your brain in work mode while not leaving the house. At any point in time, I’m a big believer that clothing is instrumental in affecting the way we feel.
If you’re working from home, I’m going to assume that most of you aren’t getting into your suits and stilettos for a day at your home desk. Or are you?
If the answer is no, I’m sure you’re still wanting to put on something appropriate for working from home #WFH so that you actually FEEL like you’re going to work.
I’ve found some great #athome alternatives from your usual work wear, that will inspire you to stay comfortable, get into work mode AND get you out of your PJ’s.
PS. It’s Vogue Online Shopping Night, so most of the items are ON SALE!
1. Consider CASHMERE instead of silk
Cashmere is a beautifully soft knit that gives a luxurious feel, therefore leaving you feeling like you’ve ‘made an effort’. It’s a cosy and comfortable knit that is perfect for being inside. And because we’re not wearing our cashmere (right now) anywhere but the house, there’s less risk of that annoying pilling where our handbags rub.
Boyfriend Sweater Skin and Threads $298 (less 25% off)
You can’t go past a classic crew neck knit and Skin and Thread have you covered with NINE COLOURS in their signature boyfriend sweater.
bassike button detail knit $695 (less 30% off now!)
Why not treat yourself to something special and a little unique in these uncertain times with this shoulder button detail cashmere knit from bassike. Available in both grey and black, it’s the perfect knit to elevate your #WFH style.
Cable Melbourne Button Poncho $259 (less 30% off NOW!)
I love this 100% cashmere Cable poncho because it’s dressier than a long sleeve tee but not as dressy as a jacket or coat. Perfect to throw over your #WFH basics (and your arms are free to roam ~ just not the streets) Available in 4 colours.
Uniqlo 100% Cashmere V Neck Sweater $129.90
As seen on moi below, Uniqlo has a great range for all your knitwear needs, at an even greater price point. Whether it’s 100% cashmere, fine merino, lambswool or soufflé yarn, head to Uniqlo online for a wide range of styles and colours.
2. Try a DRESSY LONG SLEEVE TOP instead of a tailored shirt
Let’s face it, the less ironing the better even at the best of times! Instead of your button up shirt or blouse, opt for a long sleeve top with some interest like buttons, ribbing, an unusual neckline or hem, or just a good old stripe.
Witchery Curved Hem Rib Top $59.95 (less 20% off)
It’s essentially a long sleeve tee, but has a dressier aesthetic with it’s knit-like feel, and additional features like a statement split cuff, curved hem and piping details.
Camilla and Marc Blair knit top $420 (less 25% off)
Available in toffee (pictured) and black, this Camilla and Marc top has a dressy feel with it’s turtleneck, ribbed fabrication and draped cut. I can see them teamed with the matching knit trousers for an oh-so stylish #WFH combo.
Trenery Organic Cotton Long Sleeve Tee $69.95 (less 20% off)
There’s something about a stripe that makes you feel more put together, perhaps it’s something to do with its French Chic aesthetic.
3. Wear a KNIT CARDIGAN or JACKET instead of your traditional blazer
You’ll want to be comfortable in your home office (which could be well established or possibly the kitchen table, even your bed!) so a practical jacket or cardigan is key. Consider a blazer style but less structured or a cosy cardi.
Jac and Jack Bristol Merino Blazer $859
Crafted from Italian merino wool for supreme softness and tailored to a relaxed silhouette that gently slouches over the shoulders. This jacket will have you feeling like you’re in the office with all the benefits of being at home. Available in navy and olive.
Skin and Threads Merino Triangle Wrap $340 (less 25% off)
This is another of Skin and Thread’s signature knits. Did you know you can wear this upside down? Two cardi’s for the price of one!
Country Road Merino Wool Cardigan $159 (less 20% off)
The closest thing you’ll get to putting on your winter dressing gown is this merino longline cardi from Country Road. It comes in camel, olive, black and grey.
4. Choose a SOFT TAILORED PANT instead of your tailored trousers
Who wants to feel the constraints of a tailored trouser around the you know where all day? Look for a more relaxed pant, that is dressier than a track pant but still feels polished.
Country Road Soft Cargo Pant $139 (less 20% off) available in khaki, black and tobacco
My wardrobe is rather full of this style pant, for exactly the reason I’m suggesting them to you. Stylish – tick. Comfy – tick. Can be seen wearing outside the house – tick.
bassike minimal utility chino $340 (less 30% off)
I have 2 pairs of these chino’s and they’re my go-to for days I still want something tailored without being a traditional tailored pant. Should I get a 3rd? At 30% off it’s very tempting.
Jac and Jack Ollie Merino Pant $399
I know this pant looks traditional, but its actually made of 100% merino wool meaning it’s both lightweight and comfortable. It has all the elements of a tailored trouser, but it’s more relaxed with it’s front pleats, cropped length and slightly oversized feel. It also comes in beautiful soft rose and olive green.
Viktoria and Woods Podium Check Jogger $350 (less 30% off!)
If you want to get as close to wearing your fave suit pants, then the Podium Check Pant from Viktoria and Woods is for you. Combining the key elements of tailoring with modern sports luxe suiting the pant features side pockets, elasticised waistband and ankle cuffs. The perfect non-suit, suit pant.
5. FLAT SHOES
For me, when working from home I want to slip into my shoes and go (and slip them off again) when moving around the house (from couch to desk, to couch again!) Here are some styles that are both comfortable and stylish, still giving you that ‘I got dressed today’ feeling. Don’t underestimate the importance of shoes… try to put on a ‘real’ pair of shoes every day, rather than your slippers.

Witchery Carmen Flat $139.95 (less 20% off) also in black
Did someone say Chanel? Well not quite, but these Witchery two-tone flats will complete your #WFH ensemble with polish and class (and comfort)
I was also interviewed last week by SHE DEFINED on the same topic alongside friend Sarah Harrison from Hot Content, a content and strategy consultant who’s spent years working from home. If you’re #WFH I think you’ll enjoy it too… have a read here.
