A couple that went viral over the weekend for wearing face masks emblazoned with the swastika in Walmart have since been banned from shopping at the store for a year, the retailer says. The couple was seen shopping in a Walmart in Marshall, Minnesota and can be seen in a viral video flipping off the camera and becoming hostile as they’re confronted.
In an altercation that was caught on video, other shoppers can be seen antagonizing the man and woman for wearing the Nazi symbolism on their faces. “You can’t be American and wear that mask,” says one person off screen in the video to the couple. “You can not. We literally had a war about this.” The man in the swastika mask can be seen in a Trump t-shirt while the woman argues with the manager of the store.
The couple, who has not been named, allegedly said that they were not wearing the masks to pledge their allegiance to the Nazi party, but to protest a potential Biden presidency. “If you vote for Biden, you’re going to be in Nazi Germany. That’s what it’s going to be like,” the woman says. The couple was served with trespass notices by police and were warned that they could be arrested if they return to a Walmart store.
“I was born and raised in Germany, and I grew up hearing about my great-grandmother who fought in the underground against the first wave of Nazis in the 1930s and 40s,” wrote Raphaela Mueller who captured the video on Facebook. “Let me make this abundantly clear once and for all – THE SWASTIKA IS A HATE SYMBOL AND YOU DO NOT FLY THE FLAG, YOU DO NOT WEAR THE SYMBOL ANYWHERE ON YOUR BODY, YOU DO NOT USE OR DEFEND THIS SYMBOL, EVER. END OF STORY.”
