Plan Resources for AI Solution Development
Building AI models is an important, but small, part of the overall process. You will have to spend considerable time deploying them, creating a backend that makes sense of the AI outputs, and building a front-end to show the results in a human-friendly way. Plan your resources accordingly.
Windows has long been the preferred operating system for enterprise applications, but many popular machine-learning tools either do not support Windows or have been slow to add support. Therefore, think carefully about what environment you use.
AI is a really powerful tool that can tackle a wide range of tasks. Because of this, it tempts many leaders to build a single solution that tries to solve every problem in their organization. This philosophy can lead to “feature-shock” products, which are expensive to develop and deliver underwhelming results.

Build Trust with AI Transparency
Being honest about using AI in your content is a crucial aspect of building trust with your audience.
In my case, when I created my online course, I openly shared with my students how I utilized AI to enhance my framework-creation process. This transparency not only demonstrates my commitment to delivering high-quality content but also highlights my willingness to embrace innovative tools to improve my content and teaching methods.
By acknowledging the role of AI in your course development, you establish authenticity and foster a sense of credibility among your students, reinforcing the idea that AI isn’t all doom and gloom, but can actually be a valuable ally in the pursuit of creating better content and better outcomes for your customers, users, and audience.

Define Objectives and Collaborate in AI Adoption
As the CEO of Planly, a social media management software trusted by over 10k users worldwide, which has integrated Chat GPT as an AI Content Assistant, I’d like to offer three key pieces of advice to fellow business leaders considering AI adoption.
First, you need to clearly define your business objectives and see how AI can support them. In our case, it aligns with our primary goal—increased customer engagement—as it significantly helps users create captions and content ideas.
Second, it’s crucial to consider ethical issues for strengthening customer trust. For example, Planly tries to ensure that personal information shared during interactions with the AI Content Assistant is handled in compliance with data privacy regulations.
Finally, to seamlessly integrate AI into your operations and maximize its benefits, you need to know that it’s not only an IT initiative, but also requires cross-functional teams—data scientists, marketers, and customer support—to work collaboratively.

Embrace AI for Task Automation
The best advice to business leaders looking to adopt AI technology is to not be afraid of it. The media stokes fears that people’s jobs will be replaced with AI, but if you look past that, you will find a lot of useful applications of AI for your business.
In particular, AI can automate mundane tasks, freeing up your employees to work on more tasks that require human judgment and human ingenuity. Keep in mind that AI should never act without supervision because only humans truly understand emotional and ethical considerations. AI can partner with human employees for efficient and effective business operations.

Start with AI-Powered Customer Support
You should start with AI technology that requires the least investment while making the most impact. AI customer-support tools, like chatbots, are exactly this way. Many of them are no-code solutions that require less than five minutes to add to the website. What’s more, many come with freemium versions so you can play around before making the purchase.
However, even though the installation is so simple, the benefits are abundant. AI-powered chatbots can take care of up to 70% of customer requests completely independently, saving your business time and money. They generate leads, recover abandoned carts, increase customer satisfaction, help you automate FAQs, and ensure you offer exceptional customer support. So, it’s a perfect starting point for adopting AI technology to grow your business.

Adopt AI Gradually and Deliberately
From a business leader’s viewpoint, we can divide AI applications into two categories: customer-facing and internal solutions. Internally, I’d advocate for transforming repetitive tasks into AI-driven processes. This not only offers substantial long-term cost savings, but also allows for refining edge cases over time. A prime example would be providing AI copilots to software developers.
Conversely, for customer-facing applications, extra caution is essential. Your primary goal should be ensuring that AI outputs, both stylistically and in content, resonate with your brand. For instance, AI-generated marketing content should closely mirror that crafted by human creators. Hence, while it’s valuable to incorporate AI into customer interactions, it’s prudent to do so gradually and with deliberation.

Identify High-Impact AI Use Cases
Adopting AI in business goes beyond just implementing new technology; it’s about strategically enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making processes.
First and foremost, identify specific, high-impact use cases where AI can solve existing problems or create tangible value, ensuring there’s a clear path for measurable ROI. Next, prepare your organization culturally and structurally, which involves securing buy-in from all levels of the company, fostering an environment of innovation and adaptability, and ensuring robust data management practices, as these are foundational to AI’s success.
Lastly, given the dynamic nature of AI, maintain a posture of continuous learning and agility, stay informed about the latest developments, and be ready to pivot your strategy as the technology or market conditions evolve.

Lead AI Adoption with a Growth Mindset
Embrace a growth mindset through openness and curiosity, and explore the latest advances with a proactive and positive approach.
As an early adopter in your company, delve into the numerous advantages that come with integrating AI into your daily operations and business processes. While acknowledging the reservations people have associated with emerging technologies, being informed and staying ahead of the curve not only ensures your own relevance but also fosters a sense of comfort within your team, empowering them to embrace these changes.
By leading by example, you can effectively highlight the numerous productivity benefits that AI brings. As an HR leader, I am amazed at the unexpected turn of events where I find myself leading the way in showcasing the tremendous potential of cutting-edge technology to my executive colleagues. Over the past year, GenAI has revolutionized our ability to innovate and enhanced our productivity and potential, proving to be a game-changer.

Start Small, Think Big with AI
Embracing AI is like catching a wave—you’ve got to do it right to ride successfully. For us at DasFlow, AI has been transformative in automating and optimizing processes.
My top advice is to start small but think big. Don’t try to overhaul your entire operation overnight. Begin with one aspect—say, customer service bots or inventory management. Measure the results meticulously. Then scale up as you understand the tech better.
Lessons learned? Integration is key. Whatever AI solution you adopt should smoothly integrate with your existing tech stack. Also, focus on ROI, not just the coolness of the tech. We started using AI for predictive analytics in supply chain management, which improved efficiency by 20%.
In a nutshell, ease into AI, make sure it integrates well, and always measure its impact. Adopting AI is less about jumping on a trend and more about thoughtful, strategic implementation.

Map Workflows for Effective AI Integration
In our business, we’ve incorporated a variety of AI into our daily workflows for both internal and external purposes. We learned it was extremely difficult to identify a tool that would solve “all” of our manual tasks and redundant activities. Instead of trying to look at the bigger picture of our business, we broke down our business into various workflows and then picked apart what tasks within the processes would be best suited for AI efficiency improvements.
I would recommend starting your AI journey by documenting a process or workflow map for your business. Once you have good documentation, then you can dig deeper to understand which specific items we can improve upon. The last piece would be to identify the right solution to solve that specific problem within your workflows.

Ensure Team Buy-In for AI Adoption
The first thing I’d say is, do not try to address every problem at once. Pick a specific problem that AI can solve and start there. It’s easier to scale up once you’ve got a win under your belt.
I would follow that by making sure the team is on board. It’s important to explain the benefits and how it will make their lives easier. The more people are invested, the smoother the transition will be.
From our experience, I would also recommend keeping an eye on the latest trends and being ready to adapt. AI tools keep evolving. It happened to us with ChatGPT, which began to add extensions that could boost its power to serve our needs. We used it to get insights from a big survey we had done, and to compare those insights with the conclusions from other studies. Plugins helped with that.
Finally, I would add that it’s important not to rely entirely on the output of AI, since it can still make mistakes and give erroneous information. For that previous survey, a manual revision was needed.

Prevent AI Hallucinations with Gleen.ai
I have found it helpful and very beneficial to CX to install a generative AI chatbot on my website. I learned a lot about building them, but Chat GPT was hallucinating too much, and I was getting swamped with questions about incorrect information from my chatbot. I suggest looking into a solution like Gleen AI, which has an enterprise data layer built in to prevent hallucination.

Take a Fail-Forward Approach
Take a fail-forward approach with AI. If you don’t get started with it, you will miss out on an opportunity for your business to benefit from a competitive edge.
If you’re hesitant about AI, start small.
There are a couple of examples within our company where we managed fast adaptation of AI. We started asynchronous meetings using Loom, which uses AI technology to write summaries, titles, chapters, and pulls action items out from the video.
Another is using AI as a “blank page filler” for content writing. When you see bad writing, you know it, so it’s much easier to fix it than it is to address a completely blank page. Our team uses AI in Notion to fill the blank page poorly, and then edit the structure and content to something that is more effective.
Adoption of AI for these above cases was fast and low effort because it’s simple, low-risk, but very helpful. Identify these opportunities in your business and start there.

Do Due Diligence in AI Adoption
When a business wants to adopt technology, it needs to do its due diligence when researching what to use, just like it would with a software program or any other new technology platform. It needs to make sure it has in-house experts and external gurus it can go to who will not only be up on industry trends but also adaptable to quick changes, knowledgeable about compliance and risk issues, and able to navigate systems in a way that they don’t become a runaway train.
Leaders will need to communicate effectively about what they do want and need, as well as what they don’t want and need. An example might be a company that is more in need of machine learning than simply generative AI because it wants to create an engagement tool to learn what its audience needs on an ongoing basis.
When working with a past client, this was a mistake that was made where the knowledge needed to decide which type of AI was in their best interest was not in play. The project went over budget.

Treat AI as a New Employee
My advice is to treat anything done with AI as if it’s done by a new employee. In fact, business leaders should treat AI as if it’s someone who was recently hired: they come highly recommended, have many skills, but their work needs to be checked by someone with experience.
Someone with experience should review everything you do with AI. What looks good to one person may look entirely wrong, even alien, to someone else. By ensuring that whoever supervises your AI does so closely, thoroughly, and with a keen attention to detail, you can integrate AI technology into your business much more easily.
